Auto Insurance Claims: proerty damge, actual damages, auto policy

Question
I ran into a friends garage door with my car.  My insurance will pay acv of the garage door damage as the auot policy is acv.  Is this normal?

Answer
That doesn't make sense to me.  Your insurance company generally owes for your liability.  The actual damages are what are owed by your carrier.  ACV has to do with your own property that is insured, not property damaged by you.  If you wrecked your car and it was totaled, your insurance company would evaluate the actual cash value of your car, and not the cost to replace it.

You should review the "insuring agreement" portion of your auto policy.  Liability coverage is what applies here.
