Auto Insurance Claims: auto claim, insurance check, lien holder

Question
I was told in order to receive an insurance check for my car the check must be made out to the lien holder or bodyshop thats doing the work. Can i have the check made out to the person doing the work if they no longer an established shop?

Answer
Most insurance companies will settle claims with anyone who is willing to do the work for their prices. But it sounds like this is your company with your lender named as co-insured, in which case they have a duty to protect the lien holder's interest in having the car properly repaired. That is why any car that is financed must also carry full coverage. So you can ask them, but I doubt they will go along with your plan.
