Auto Insurance Claims: Hit and Run, uninsured motorist coverage, collision coverage

Question
I just bought my car, haven't even made the first payment. There's only liability coverage though Progressive. They do  cover uninsured motorist. There was a witness and a police report made. Unfortunatly we dont' have a license plate number. The person driving down the street was speeding and swerving, hit my car really good, and took off. My insurance company is saying they need a license plate number or I'm stuck with the expenses. Is there a way to go around this?

Answer
Hi Tara,

If the car was financed you must have collision coverage or the finance company will buy it for you and add it to your loan.

You can not have uninsured motorist coverage without having collision coverage.

Someone is explaining things incorrectly to you. You should contact your agen to verify what coverage you purchased.

If there were any witnesses to the incident, you should be able to get them to make a statement to progressive in order for them to pay this under the uninsured motorist cover if you have that coverage.

I hope this helps
