Auto Insurance Claims: State Farm problems., salary bills, claim insurance

Question
I had my motorcycle stolen on July 24, 2008 and I was wondering how long they have before they have to offer e a settlement? I'm in IL. I have been getting the run-a-round from them and they see more interested in me and my salary, bills etc and not my bike. I feel like I have been a victim twice now and am upset yet concerned.

Thans for any info.

Answer
Hi Ted,

In most states, an insurance company has upto 60 days to investigate and either pay or deny a theft claim.

Insurance companies generally assume that the vehicle owner is a suspect in the theft of their own property. They will check your credit, bank records and other financial information in order to fee if you are behind on your bills. This could be a sign that you are in financial trouble which could be a motiv to have the bike stolen to get out of the payments or to gain cash for other bills. Do not take this personally. This is how all theft claims are handled. Just answer their questions. Fill out any forms requested and all will be fine if you had nothing to do with it.

In the mean time, if you are making payments on the bike, you should continue to do so until the claim is paid. The finance company does not care that the bike was stolen. They still want their money.

I hope this helps
