Auto Insurance Claims: Three car collision, front car, car collision, second car

Question
Hi Richard,

My name is Janine and I was involved in the three car collision on June 17. Mine was the first front car hit by the car behind me, which was hit by the third one. I talked to the guy from the second car(2nd guy), but not from the third one who must be responsible for the collision(3rd guy). I thought the 2nd guy was getting his information. Since it was on the highway, 2nd guy suggested to exit first and meet outside of highway. 3rd guy didn't show up.
No one was injured, luckily. My car had severe damage on the back rear bumper and had to be towed.

I contacted Geico right away and the rep said it would be covered by the other person's liability and I shouldn't pay anything. Today, June 23, they emailed me a document that says it has to be covered by collision policy therefore I need to pay $1,000 deductible, since neither I nor 2nd guy has the 3rd guy's information.

Do you think there is any way I can avoid paying $1,000 deductible? I feel just so frustrated because I made it to stop and I didn't think it would cost me so much.

Thank you so much.

Answer
Hi Janine,

Unfortunately, since noone has any information on the guy that caused the accident, you will have to make the claim on your own policy. When ever you make a claim on your own policy you will have to pay the deductible.

I hope this helps
