Auto Insurance Claims: hit parked motorcycle, handlebar, insurance company

Question
My husband hit a parked motorcycle while backing out of our driveway, he
went to the house where the owner of the motorcycle was visiting and told
him what had happened. They all looked over the bike and agreed that the
only visual damage was to the handlebar and brake, my husband said to let
him know that the damages cost and he would pay him rather than use our
insurance. The wife has just dropped off a repair order for over $1800.00
which clearly has costs for parts that were not damaged. How do we handle
this, the man is our neighbors brother, and our neighbor is out of town until
later this week.

Answer
Hi Rhonda,

Tell the guy he will have to provide you with photos of all of the damaged parts or bring the bike back to you so you can see all of the damaged parts yourself. If they are legitamately damage you will have to pay for them. If not then simply tell the guy that you are not going to pay for things that were not caused bu your husband hitting the bike.  If it becomes too much of a problem they you may have to turn it over to your insurance company to handle.

I hope this helps
