Auto Insurance Claims: Limit of liability no fault claim, will a not at fault accident affect my rates

Question
I was involved in an accident involving 4 vehicles. I was not at fault. I have $3800 damage to my vehicle. The other 3 vehicles were totaled. The adjuster for the at-fault driver says the total damage to all the vehicles will exceed the driver's limit of liability.
The at fault driver and myself have the same insurance company. Both my adjuster and the at fault driver's adjuster want me to make a claim on my own policy since there is not enough money to go to everyone. They are willing to waive my deductible and will code the claim as not my fault.
I do not have underinsured coverage on my policy. If I have the repairs paid for on my policy will my rates increase?

Answer
Lisa,

Most Texas companies use a point system to determine what rate group you fit into.  At fault claims count more points against you than not at fault claims, but if you have enough not at fault claims, you become a higher risk anyway.

I hope that makes sense.  In your case, I can't say for certain without seeing the underwriting guidelines / policies for your company, but I would be very surprised if this one claim would make any difference in your rate.

I hope that helps. . . If you're not satisfied with the answer, you'll have to get with your insurance company's underwriting manager and ask them to confirm for you in writing how the accident will affect your rates.
