Auto Insurance Claims: How much is a fair settlement, doctors notes, economic losses

Question
This is in follow up to a previous question I had relating to a car accident I was in earlier this year.  The other driver, who was killed, was completely at fault.  I was cut out of my car, transported to the ER and released.  My injuries consisted of a fractured fibula, lacerations to my ankle/foot which have left 5 scars, and a 4"x6" area on the inside of my knee with nerve damage.  The area is painful when bumped or touched with pressure and I have typewritten doctor's records indiciating that the injury is permanent.  I'm attempting to settle without a lawyer and presented my demand letter, medical bills (approx. $6K) and doctors notes to the other drivers insurance company.  Their initial offer  to settle was $40K, however, having been told previously that this claim could settle for six figures, I requested $110K.  They've since raised their offer to $50K and told me if I think it's worth more, to contact a lawyer.  I feel with my lasting injury, it's worth more.  Am I right?

Hi Carolyn,
I just got your 2/19 follow up saying that you were able to get a settlement of $60,000.  I'm glad you got a higher amount and are satisfied.
We both must agree that whoever stated that your claim was worth 6 figures was way off.

Hi Carolyn,
Please let me know when you get your six figure settlement.
I would like to be the first to congratulate you.
Of course, fair is only fair......so, if you don't get a settlement greater that $50,000, I think you owe me an apology for your remarks.
Bennie
Sincerely,
Bennie

Hi Carolyn,
If your total economic losses are $6,000 which include Ambulance, ER Visit, Medical Doctor's care, physical therapy, prescription drugs and your roundtrip mileage for each visit at $0.43 per mile, then a settlement of $50,000 is over 8 times your economic losses.  I don't think that an attorney could receive a higher settlement and his/her charge would be 1/3 - 40% of your settlement.
It does appear that you are being offered a fair settlement.
I hope this has been of help.
Your feed back by rating my answer will be appreciated.

Bennie
