Auto Insurance Claims: non insured driver collision, guardrail, insurance company

Question
Hey I was I was driving my girlfriends car today when I lost control and slammed into a guardrail the car is basically totaled she was under her mothers insurance and they had collision on the vehicle we all reside and the vehicle is insured in NY state will there or should there insurance company pay for the vehicle. Even though i was driving. And we had just put $1300.00 dollars in shocks into the car 6 days prior if they do or are supposed to pay do we bring this up we have receipts to try and recover something. Thanks

Answer
Hi Christopher,

If you do not live with your girlfriend, then the car should be covered. If you do live with your girlfriend and were not listed on the policy then they may deny coverage because everyone living in the household must be disclosed to the insurer.

As far as the work that was done, The items you described would be considered regular maintenence. You should tell the insurance comapny anout it however they will likely only add a very small amount for this type of work.

I hope this helps
