Auto Insurance Claims: bumper damage, state insurance commissioners, chrysler town and country

Question
I was rear ended by a young man while waiting behind a bus.  We exchanged info and I had never heard of his company so I called mine and reported the accident.  After 3 weeks Allstate finally sent an adjuster.  I drive a 2005 Chrysler town and country. He said the bumper and pad plus a piece underneath needed to be replaced.  Gave me a written estimate and a list of repair shops.  I did some checking and called one of the recommended shops.  I had to pay a $250 deductible but it would be paid back by the other ins co.  Well I dropped off my van and when I picked it up I was shocked to find out the bumper was not replaced but repaired and not very well and now it has a bump in it that is very obvious.  Seems someone at Allstate said that there was no need to replace the bumper.  Now I do not know what to do.  The van looks bad and the repair place said they cannot fix it any better and Allstate will not pay for a bumper.  Can they do that?  They did repairs I did not authorize.  Am I stuck with a lumpy bumper?  Any help is appreciated.  Allstate saved a total of $233 which they would have recouped from the other insurance co.  Turned out to be a better one.

Answer
Hi Donna,

You have to fight this. You should call Allstate back and tell them that the repairs are unacceptable and since they recommended the shop you expect them to make it right. Do not take no for an answer. If the adjuster says no then ask to speak to a supervisor or manager. If they still say no you can file a complaint with your state insurance commissioners office.

I hope this helps
