Auto Insurance Claims: Claim Damage Due to Neighbors Fire, business insurance company, auto insurance company

Question
My car was damaged due to a fire from neighbor's business property. I have comprehensive coverage with my own auto insurance company so I can get my car repaired by them. But since I know the cause of the fire, should I also send claim to the property owner's insurance company? In this case, can  I claim diminished value since I know the liable party? What's the best way for me? Many thanks.

Answer
Hi Kai,

You can file the repair claim with your insurance comapny however, you will have to incur your deductible, any rental expense beyond your coverage, etc. You need to provide your insurance company will all of the info regarding the fire and the business insurance company. Your insurance company will then contact the other insurance company to get back the money they paid out, your deductible and possibly any excess rental.

You will have to pursue the diminished value directly against the business insurance.

I hope this helps
