Auto Insurance Claims: property damage claim, fault insurance, rental expenses

Question
From a claimant's standpoint - what or is there any advantage to hgo through the at-fault driver's insurance carrier for property damage as opposed to going through the claimant's insurance company.

Answer
Hi Yvonne,

When you make a claim through your own insurance policy, you will have to pay your deductible to the body shop. You also may have limited coverage for a rental car and would have to pay any short fall.

If you make the claim to the at-fault persons insurance company, they will pay the cost of repairs in full as well as all rental expenses.

Sometimes the at-fault insurance company is not cooperative and then you should go through your own policy.

I hope this helps
