Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: air conditioner repair/recharge., autohelp, oil charge

Question
I bought a 1993 ford explorer. It had a bad a/c pump but the new parts were in the vehicle. I installed the new pump and accumulator and put in a retro-fit kit, new o-rings,oil charge, and six cans of refrigerant. I've since lost 4 attempting to recharge it. The compressor kicks on momentarily but will not stay on. the refrigerant
has dissapeared and no cool air. This is getting
expensive and I'm at my wits end. Can you make a
suggestion ?  Thank You. Bill

Answer
did you evacuate the system of atmospheric air using a vacuum pump before recharging it ?.

When you remove the old compressor you dump out and measure the amount of refrigerant oil that was in the old compressor.

Then you empty out all the oil out of the new compressor and add the same amount of NEW oil into the new pump that you removed from the old pump. Did you do this ?.
