Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 1999 Ford Taurus heater working in drive, ford taurus, 1999 ford taurus

Question
Thanks so much... what do you mean by controller?  A couple more questions:
1) What's the difference between the 'Heater Air Damper Door' and the 'A/C Electronic Blend Door Actuator'?  I think I may be confusing the 2..?
2) Depending on which 'door' it may be, in my Chilton's manual it shows that the 'Heater Air Damper Door' is located in the lower part of the instrument insulator panel, but the 'door actuator' involves more. -- I am pretty handy...do you think changing either of thest out would be possible?  Meaning, I don't think I'd even try to tackle the heater core.... For either of theses, there is no mention of draining coolant and what not...

HISTORY: 1999 V6 Ford Taurus that has about 83,000 miles on it.  The last repair work was around 45,000 (burnt valve) and the last time I had it in a shop was for an oil change about 100 miles ago (or so).

SYMPTOMS: The heater recently started acting up. It's cold/luke warm in idle but warm/not quite hot in drive (higher RPM) and it does blow air.  I just performed a coolant flush at home - it was VERY dirty but I was able to get it pretty clean (from a garden hose and superflush chemicals).  Anyway, this did not help but did not make it any worse.  The engine does not overheat and it's running very smooth.  The A/C is functioning OK.

CAUSE: By reading many questions in this forum, sounds like it could be the 'blend actuator door'.  Doesn't seem to be the heater core if the heater does start to work at high speeds...?   Any thoughts?  Any other tests that I can perform to try and pinpoint the problem?  I realize that in order to reach the 'blend actuator door' or the 'heater core' I have to take the dash off (fun).  I don't think I'd attempt to do this myself.  I have, however, taken my glovebox out and inspected the heater blower...everything seemed fine there.

Thanks in advance

Answer -
Most likely the blend door actuator or controller.

Answer
Depending upon the manufacturer and the BOOK that you use it can be called a blend door, damper door or air damper door they are all basically the same thing.

The controller is the unit that moves the arm attached to the above said door.
