Auto body repair & detailing: repair

Question
Nice to meet you Dave,

I have a 2009 Kia Sportage. The passenger door handle won't open. I remember about a week ago, hearing a noise. At the time I thought the door didn't close right. Then later found out different. So now I roll down my window, reach for the outside handle to get out.

I'm wondering if you have an idea of what could be wrong and how much it will cost to fix. Will it be $50, $100 ect. The closest garage wants $30 just to look at it!

thanks for your time,
joyce

Answer
Hi Joyce....Your question just showed up today April 22/15 on my E-Mail under the category "Question Pool"....I hope it is not too late to help you out....In regards as to the cause of why your inside door handle is not operative, the most common cause/problem in late model vehicles today for this condition, is due to more plastic being used....My best guess, is that either the plastic linkage rod clip broke and the rod that releases the door latch fell out, or the lever that it is also attached to broke. Unfortunately, it could be both....Either way, it should be just a simple replacement of the interior door handle assembly.....As for cost, it will depend on if you would like to use new, aftermarket, or used parts....The labour rate for changing an inside door handle assembly, should not run than more than 1 Hour....Just as an example: Used door handle: $50....1 Hour Labour: $75 on the high side as it is here....All in all, the total cost should be in the area of $125 plus tax....Please remember, that this is just an estimate, as labour rates and part prices vary considerably from region to region....Hope this helps you out.....If you have any further questions or concerns, you are more than welcome to contact me directly....Thanks for your question....Dave.
