Auto body repair & detailing: Vinyl top, vinyl, leather

Question
I have a 1997 Cadillac Deville and the vinyl top is starting to crack. How can I repair or stop it from getting worst.

Answer
Hi Margarita,

Once vinyl begins to crack there is no way that I am aware of to reverse the process or repair it. You can slow it down using different types of Vinyl/Leather Cleaner and Restorer products on the market. I have also heard that some old timers would use Vasoline on their vinyl tops for water resistance and to keep it soft and pliable. I have never owned a vehicle with a vinyl roof so I don't really have any personal experience with it. However, for vinyl seats (aka: pleather) on the interior I use a product called Leather Lotion. It seems to keep the seats soft and pliable. Here is a link: http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_leather_lotion_16oz.cfm I'm sure it would work on your vinyl top as well. I hope this helps out.
