Auto body repair & detailing: paint bubble and peel on Toyota 02 back bumper, faulty workmanship, spray cans

Question
What is the best way to repair the paint peel on my rear bumper?  I've told to do it myself but after reading some of your previous responses I'm afraid I'd make it worse!  I have not experience in this.
I'm also concerned about the rest of the car - is there anything I can have put on the paint to prevent any more bubbling or chipping?

Answer
There is nothing you can apply to stop the peeling. wAS THE BUMPER repaired or replaced at some point? It sounds like faulty workmanship to me, unless it's a truck, and it's semi-gloss black paint. It's really a dirty job to repair cars, and you really need at least a sander. You can sand it down by hand, but it takes forever, and it usually yields poor results. If your vehicle is a car, and it's the body color that's peeling, a color match from spray cans is next to impossible, and it will look like it was repaired by an amateur. Just pay a pro the 3 or 4 hundred bucks to do it right. You will be much happier with the results. Bill
