Auto body repair & detailing: door repair, key replacement, autobody shop, tack cloth

Question
my jeep was broken into and the metal around the key cartridge was ripped out of shape. i am wondering if i should attempt to weld a piece in order to replace the cartridge, although it seems rather difficult (circle with indentation edging) for a beginner...either cut a new piece to insert, or weld the ragged part of the hole...
my other option was to weld the hole shut and finish over... and convert to a keyless entry.(i'm a broke student, so i can't take it to the autobody shop or pay the deductible). thanks for your help!!
i looked into those generic key cartridges (for different sizes) but they're discontinued.

Answer
Just take a hard peace of wood or metal and hold it tight on the inside of the door and pound on the out side with a hammer to form the metal back in shape. Then weld any rips in the metal and grind flat. Use a file to shape the hole.
Then apply bondo and sand smooth. Then spray 2-3 coats of primer and let dry. You then feather sand primer with 400 grit sand paper. If you plan on painting the whole door scuff the rest of the door with a gray 3M scuff pad. Or just blend your paint over the repair area. For complete door refinishing mask the car with masking tape and paper and plastic. The whole car must be covered except the door you are painting. Then tack off door with a tack cloth and refinish 2-3 coats.
