Auto body repair & detailing: Touching up moulding on bumper, mercury marquis, cleaner degreaser

Question
Dear Ken,
I have a 1992 Grand Mercury Marquis that is dark blue. The front bumper is the same color but there is a dark gray strip if moulding on it. The paint of the dark gray strip has come off of the corner of the bumper. How do I fix this? Also how do I make sure I have the same color for this moulding? There are no dents just the paint is off. Please help!!
Thank you very much.
Patricia

Answer
To repair the spot of which you speak you must feather sand the area as far as the paint is peeling. And then mask the area with tape and paper and spray some primer over the whole affected area to about one and a half inches over into the good paint, let dry. Then sand the primer with 400 grit sand paper and unmask. Then mask off the whole gray strip and lightly scuff the whole strip with a gray 3M scuff pad. Wipe area down with a cleaner/degreaser And your ready to spray paint. Tack with a tack cloth and apply 2 to 3 coats of paint let dry and unmask. All products that you need are available at any Napa type store including the paint custom matched at the store. You could get a aerosol can or by the pint. For the beginner I would recommend a aerosol can.
    Thank you for the question!
