Auto body repair & detailing: clear coat problem, paint scratch repair, acrylic lacquer

Question
Hi,

I recently did a paint scratch repair on my car. I ordered paint matching basecoat and clearcoat online and played around with it a little bit before I applied it to my car.

I found out the best way to apply it to my car was by using an airbrush. I was able to blend the basecoat in perfectly. After that I wanted to apply a clearcoat to protect the paint. Again I used the airbrush to apply the clear coat to the car.

As soon as the clearcoat hit the basecoat, the basecoat started to dissolve in the clearcoat. The end result now looks awful especially since it is a metallic basecoat.
Instead of using the airbrush to apply the paint, I have also used a regular paintbrush, same thing happens though.
The basecoat was completely dry before applying the clearcoat, I even applied the clearcoat to a test sample which I had done 4 weeks ago and the basecoat still disolves in the clearcoat.

Do you have any idea what i could change to prevent the basecoat from dissolving. I was using an acrylic based paint and clearcoat before. Is there a possibility to use the acrylic based basecoat (perfect colormatch) and use a different type of clearcoat?
Do you have any tips?

Thanks,

Answer
Sounds like a nightmare I would go down to a Napa store and ask the for some urethane clear coat. Tell them of your problems Maybe they can offer you some tips as far as what your base coat is acrylic lacquer or what. They also mix custom matched paint.
