QuestionSince I was moving to a new city, I had my car shipped. While the car was being unloaded, the roof or the car banged against the ceiling of the truck. This have caused a few (4-5) long, very thin, parallel dents on the roof of my car. In most places, even the paint has not come off.
Is there anything I can do to self repair the dents? From your experience, how much do you think it would cost to repair in a auto body shop?
AnswerFirst, the movers should be insured for this sort of damage. They may try to convince you otherwise, but be persistant, and perhaps they will pay. Have your insurance agent contact the moving company about a claim. then, have your insurance agent, or a local dealership that sells your brand of car, point you to someone who does paintless dent repair. They can do some amazing things, if the panel isn't creased or the paint broken. Look to spend 100-200 dollars for this service. If they can't help you, look to spend 350-600 dollars at a body shop, depending upon he severity of the dents. If the shop deems the roof too damaged to repair, get a second opinion at another shop. I only remove roof skins when absolutely necessasary. It isn't a job for kids learning to do body work, and can be the source of water leaks and interior burns when improperly done. This option can cost a thousand dollars or more. Ask neighbors or co-workers for the names of reputable shops. hope this helps! Bill
