Auto body repair & detailing: INSTALLING A WINDOW, silverado 4x4, electric doors

Question
-------------------------

Hi Ken,
First.........Thanks for getting back to me so soon!
So I can most likely assume that if the window can at least go down, that there is NO problem with the motor and I shouldn't need to replace it, correct?
Plus........If the ONE TAB of the swith works....(the one that lowers the window), and the ONE TAB that allows the window to go UP is NOT working, I can assume that the issue is with the switch, correct?
Does this mean the the part of the switch that allows the window to go up is BURNED OUT?
On the switch board....there are (3) spots for thes switches.
1) for the electric doors
1) for the passenger side window
1) for the drivers side window
**Every thing else is working okay on this one board so I shouldn't have to replace this board....just replace this switch, correct ken?
Finally, if I need this switch, do you think I can buy it at any Parts store like autozone, car quest, or advanced auto?

Again...........Thanks so much for your help!!
Have a great day!!
Tom/Pa.

Question -
Hi, I have a 1988 Chevy P/U, Silverado
4x4
5.7 L
(k)1500
**On my Drivers side, the electric window goes DOWN but will NOT go UP!
**I assume that the electric window "LIFT MOTOR" is not working properly and has to be replaced, correct?
**If it was the switch, wouldn't it also prevent the window from going DOWN?
**If you believe that in this case, it is the window lift motor, can you please tell me the (LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY)would be in REPLACING IT?
**Do I have to be a skilled Body Parts Person to do this?
**Ay this point, I already have the drivers side-panel off.
**Is there going to be any CUTTING of the metal to get to this unit?
**Please......any help or advise would truly be appreciated!

Thanks!!
Tom/Pa.

Answer -
No I would say it is the switch. One way on the switch controls up and one way controls down. and the power motor is working in at least one function. If you do have to replace the motor aswell it is not that hard to do just tape the glass in place so it won't fall.unplug the motor to the switch and unbolt the motor from the regulator. Should be three bolts holding it in place than just grasp the power motor and wiggle it back and fourth it sould fall in your hand. To put in a new one just move the glass up and down just a little to get the teeth to line up and bolt it back in and plug it in.should be good to go.

Answer
Yes if you flip the switch and you can't hear anything trying to move than more than likly its the switch. And yes you just replace the one switch for the window. You may be able to get that part from a aftermaket source. Or I think it is like $15.00 bucks from the dealer. Just pry under it with a scew driver.
