Auto body repair & detailing: Oil underbody spray, plymouth grand voyager, lifetime warr

Question
John, Just bought a 1991 plymouth grand voyager 128,000 km. The previous owner maintained well. Have to do tranny work! Had dealer rust proof it when new. Now some rust at rear door just below window, and some spots near drivers door. Is it worth my time doing oil spray on it or should I do body work first and then underbody spray. Was going to tint windows and paint maroon. It is an ugly gold color.  Thanks   ron

Answer
RUST   OOOOOO ugly word we hate.. most of the time you have it you have it forever. what we have been doing and so far works we tested it on test panel over 2 yrs ago and no rust yet... clean it all off best you can . inside the panels to if poss. on outside panels put on filler like you would anyway. make sure to cover all areas rusting.. on inside panels if you can get to them  clean them up to. and cover with either body filler. or panel bond (you can get this at a auto body supply store. you want to make sure ALL areas of rust is covered no matter what . than undercoat inside panels too. double ins. what this does is keep any air out. that is what feeds rust. the back door on them alway had a proplem with rust. it gets in under the window. you may want to price a aftermaket rear door for it and have the window changed over to the new one. check on line with keystone aftermaket auto parts .. as far as oil spray i never heard of that sorry.. window tint is good on any van helps keep in coolness and heat. the trans i don't know what kind of trouble you are having . but if you have to replace it. check the price on a rebuilt one at your local dealer. they are cheaper than most trans shops and come with a 12 mths warr. as far as paint go with a good paint like b.a.s.f. they give a lifetime warr. with it. thats all we use .. good luck with it. hope this helps you out
