Auto body repair & detailing: bumper, mail order company, sikkins

Question
Brian,

Thanks for the quick turnaround on my question.

I have a followup question.  I checked around and Duplicolor does not have a match for my car color (Sandrift Metallic/'Champagne Pearl': 3M5/40).  I can buy paint for scratches from the dealer, but nothing bigger.  So much for saving some money and doing it myself (which I enjoy).

Do you have any recommendations on what I can do to finish the bumper?  Any mail order company that you might recommend?

Thanks.

Eric

Question -
I recently had some bodywork done to repair a dent/scrape in the lower right quarter panel of my 2001 Corolla.  I didn't want to have that mark on my insurance right now, so I paid for the repairs myself.  A local body shop repaired the body for $800, but said there was some damage to the bumper and I already was spending more than I wanted to pull from savings, so I asked them to repair the corner of the bumper so that it could be reattached properly and they left it with primer.  I am planning to just finish the bumper my self and would like to know how I should finish the painting.  About 8-10 inches of the bumper has primer on it and it looks like they taped it at the edge where the primer ends, so there's a definite line where it ends.

Thanks.

Answer -
You need to wetsand out the tape edge and primer with 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper. Then scuff the rest of the bumper with a gray scuffpad then refinish. You can pic up these materials at your local auto paint supply store.

         Hope this helps

Answer
What you need to do is to take it to a good autopaint supply dealer. They have a machine that they hold against your car and takes a picture of it, then a computer analizes it and formulates a correct match for you. Also You do not have to paint it in Duplicolor there are much better paints out there eg.(Doupont,Sikkins,Shermanwilliams,)just to name a few.How about the guy that painted your car he got the paint someware. You dont need a licence to buy it.
         Good luck Keep me posted
