Auto body repair & detailing: Rain Gutter 1984 Toyota 4x4 pickup xtra cab, toyota 4x4 pickup, rain gutter

Question
I am repairing and restoring a 1984 Toyota 4x4 Xtra Cab pickup.

I am looking for help on where I might find a replacement rain gutter the little channel that is on the roof and front windshield support post.  This part has rusted out but the windshield and and roof is fine.  I think you can either weld this on or attach this some way.  I have ground the old one off and the metal below it is in good condition.  I just need to find a replacement gutter or channel not the trim piece but the channel that that the trip attaches to it.  Is this something that can be purchased or does it have to be made.

I also would like to know about self etching primer.  I plan to LINE X coat this truck.   Will self etching primer help make the metal better for stuff to stick too such as this bed liner material.  I have heard that this primer scuffs the metal up which is what I think I need to help this stuff stick to the truck.

Thanks Tom Thornton

Answer
The "rain gutter" is part of the roof panel on Toyota trucks. You would have to replace the roof panel to get that part. You probably could fabricate the channel or modify the seam and go without the drip edge, like newer vehicles.

You should scuff the bed with 80 grit paper before the bed liner is applied, no primer is required...Good Luck, Brian
