Auto Glass: 2009 BMW M6 convertible, Mirrors, heated mirror

Question
I have one of these scheduled for Monday. I put it out so I can ask this. Are there any tricks that you know about or is it pretty simple?

Answer
Hi Electric Auto Glass,

I personally have never replaced this BMW M6 Model year windshield before so I can only tell you what I would do when faced with the unknown of any unfamiliar auto glass replacement job, Windshields, Door Glasses, Back Glasses.

First: Google It!, Get a good look at that cars glass. I do this on every job I don't remember, and after 30 years belive me its all a Blur. Then find out if the car needs parts! Mouldings, Clips, Stops. Ask the Glass Distributor if they sell a lot of any of these parts for any given Windshield and you will get a good idea as to what the chances are of having to replace them.

Second: Do a walk over with the customer and point out anything that is scratched, dented or damaged and Cover your ass and Everything that could get damaged!, Sheet inside car, Tape fender edges, Remove that 200.00 mirror before you pull the glass.

Third: Take everything apart that is in your way. After the first time you will know what you can leave on or take off but for now if it looks like it might be in your way remove it, it may take longer this way but in the long run it is better than braking something and you can always put everything back together.

Also there is always the Auto glass Journal, a monthly publication subscription that tells you step by step how to replace any new Glass for any Model year.

On a personal Note. Just Glass Guy to Glass Guy, No one can teach you how to Care! And just the fact that you put off this job to get more info tells me you care about doing things right! So treat every job like its for your family, and ask yourself would you want your Mother driving that car after you put the windshield in? Or in 10-15 Years when you can afford this nice car would you want this Windshield in it?  If you knew that teenager was going to have that head on would you have added the extra half a tube of glue or did something different that would have saved his life? These things must be on your mind with every job. and ask yourself is the 5 min i saved not priming a pinchweld or glass worth me not sleeping? After the day is over can you look back and say, that person is safer in that car now that you replaced that Glass.  After 30 years you want to be able to say the world is a safer place because of me!

Hope this Helps! Stay Safe! Derek :)
