Auto Glass: Repair window, warranty issues, toyota motor

Question
how much would it cost me to fix/replace a Toyota power window "motor" (just the motor) for the passenger side? Just one window. what should be the price range for a mechanic to just install the motor after I buy the piece separately?

Thank you for your help!

Answer
Hi Jonathon,

You don't mention what year or model of Toyota so I am going to make the assumption that it is 1997 or newer and a Camry or a Corolla.

It takes an experienced mechanic about an hour to replace this type of window motor, so, depending on where you live, you are probably looking at fifty to ninety dollars for labor.

I would let the mechanic get the replacement motor for you.  You should expect to pay about sixty to seventy dollars for a good aftermarket* motor.  The mechanic will get a better price than you can and he will make a few more dollars that way.  The best part is that he will also then be responsible for any warranty issues.

If you have any other questions be sure to send me a follow up.

* (The Toyota motor is over-priced.  A salvaged motor is too risky.)

Thanks,  Ben .... the power window guy.
