QUESTION: Will a Turbo 350 transmission mate up to the transfer case of a 1996 Chevy Four Wheel drive 1/2 ton pickup with 350 motor?

ANSWER: Hi Tim,

A turbo 350 in a '96 vehicle? Not likely. The THM350's were out-of-production in 1982 replace by electronic versions and OD units. Bolt-up? probably, but the engine would suffer with fuel issues because the ECM would no longer be able to determine exactly how fast the output sensor is spinning and I'm sure the MIL would be on permanently after that conversion.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

QUESTION: My tranny went out of 96 truck, I don't have the money to replace with exact tranny, but I can get a turbo 350.  This is just a work truck, will the splines line up?

I don't believe they will. I think the output shaft diameter was change when the tranny was redesigned which added I think one more spline to the count. What year/make/model is the THM-350 from?
