QuestionHello, i own a 98honda accord, auto,coupe v6, whenever i come to a complete stop and take off when it switch out in the first gear it will switch out extremely hard some times churp the tires then after that it switches out fine, just in that first gear it does that.So i took it to my mechanic and he put it on a machine and it said that it was the second gear clutch solenoid if im not mistaken but it did say solenoid.Please help,thanks chris

a transmission, on it's own, can't pull enough power from the engine to 'churp' the tires as you say so I have to think you are accelerating too fast unless what you mean is that the shift point is at a higher engine RPM than normal. If a solenoid in your trans were to go bad, the PCM would trip a service engine light. In the absence of the SES light, I'd suggest a trans fluid and filter change.
Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).
