Auto Parts: chevy truck starter problem, chevy k1500, pep boys

Question
I replaced my starter and solenoid on my 1994 chevy k1500 and upon connecting the battery the engine turns over with the keys in my pocket...I've checked the wiring and ignition switch, I've even disconnected the ignition switch and still the engine turns over when connecting the btry. The solenoid checks good (not sticking) If it is the relay I can't find it to check it. This truck is a half year model so everything is different than the regular 1994's. even the size of the starter. If it helps here is the VIN # 2gcek19k2r1293718

Answer
Hi Rick,

Follow the two wires from the starter as it seems to me that they may have melted together and the 'S' (solenoid) wire is powered up. If you have the ignition switch (not the key-tumbler) disabled/disconnected, the only thing I can think of is either a stuck solenoid, which you state it is new and not stuck or a short from the positive battery cable or another wire feeding 12v to that S-terminal.

My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
