Auto Parts: transmissin removal for clutch replacement, clutch replacement, bolt heads

Question
How can you remove the upper drivers side transmission mounting bolt?  My husband has already cracked 2 sockets using the technique someone else supplied using an extension and flex head breaker bar. This is in a 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3 liter.

Answer
Hi Sharon,

Ok, tough spot. Either access through the wheel well (remove the inner fender well) with a wrench or use a 48 inch extension with a SWIVEL-SOCKET, not a swivel AND socket, a swivel-socket from the rear of the transmission. here's the trick, the T-case has to be removed (if equipped) and then with a jack, lower the tail of the transmission until the bolt heads are accessible. You should only need to drop it a small amount. When the transmission's tail is coming down, as it is obvious you are not familiar with techniques, no big deal, someone should be looking at the engine to make sure the fan does not touch the radiator and that the EGR tube behind the intake does not get crushed.

Other than that, you should be ok.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
