Auto Parts: 1991 S10 Pickup Ignition Switch, s10 pickup, tilt wheel

Question
I have a 91 S10 pickup, and the ignition switch acts like it is on when it is off and the key is out, i.e. the electronics stay on and the truck does not shut off. The mechanical functions of the switch still work, i.e. the wheel will not turn and it will not come out of park when the switch is off. It's a 4.3 with a tilt wheel. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks! Alex

Answer
Hi Alex,

The tumbler part of your ignition switch is working fine but the ACTUAL ignition switch is mounted on the base of the steering column, under the dash, and is controlled by the tumbler part via a small metal rod. I suspect either the rod broke, became dislodged or the spring in the ignition switch busted and is holding the switch in the 'ON' position. At any rate, the column-mounted ignition switch seems to be the issue.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
