No, it doesn't crank over at all.  But when it has cooled down it starts normally.

The water level in the radiator is good and had been filled with 50/50 mix (coolant/water).  But to answer my initial question, Can a car start when it has overheated?  Or does the car have to cool off before it can start?

It is a Nissan Maxima 810 automatic.  I am not technical, and do not know what a high temp cut-out is.  If you could explain it in layman's terms what the problem could be.  And getting a radiator flush will not help?

-----Question-----
My car has recently been overheating with the temperature level above the normal (7 bars).  If the car is still hot, the car will not start.  Now the temperature goes up to 8 bars within minutes of driving.  I would hope to think that all I need is to flush the radiator. But if the car does not start when its hot, is this a symptom common to an overheating problem?
-----Answer-----
depending on the type of car it might have a high temp cut-out on it. or it might just be to hot for the fuel and air to mix properly. what type of car.
-----Answer-----
have you checked the fluid level. not only in the bottle but in the radiator it self. if they are both full it could really be a lot of things. water pump, fan motor, fan itself, belts, cracked cylinder head. it is pretty hard to tell without looking at it. i would recommend taking it to a shop to have it looked at. will probably be cheaper in the long run to have it fixed than to replace a bunch of parts to no avail.
-----Answer-----
if the car is really hot it probably wont start. the fuel will flash boil in the intake and not mix properly. when you say it doesn't start does it still crank over or not.

Answer
the reason its not starting when it is hot is because the starter is heat soaked. comon problem with some cars. as to why it is over heating you need to check the fans and the belts to make sure they are in working order. have you checked the thermostat?
