Car Alarms: 95 Camry Alarm, logical solution, set button

Question
QUESTION: I read your reply to someone else with a 95 Camry alarm problem. I tried the solution you gave for that one and it doesn't work for mine.

Is there a way of identifying whether the alarm is factory or dealer installed? I got the car from my parent who purchased it new and I know they would never have an aftermarket product installed by anyone except a dealer.

There are two other problems in my case.
1 the actual key set button pack is missing. The alarm stopped working years ago and it never went off no matter which position the toggle was in.
2 The driver side door lock only works to open the door. It no longer turns to the left ( to lock the door with the key ) The tumblers must be worn because the key still works in the passenger door.

I was out of town for a month and when I came back I knew the battery was ultra dead because the clock wasn't on. I tried charging the battery but it wouldn't take a full charge and of course the horn kept going crazy when I opened or closed the door.

I purchased a brand new battery and of course I'm having the same problem. In fact at some point it would not allow me to take the care out of Park and the car was blocking my garage. I don't remember what I did to get it out of park so I could tow it backward to get my other car out.

So now it sits and the toggle makes no difference. The car won't crank at all. I rechecked the voltage which is still 12.5.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

ANSWER: Have this physically repaired. The doors are part
of the chain that controls the alarm. If damaged,
you can't do that effectively.

Also, if the ignition mechanism is frozen,
this is a mechanical issue. Need to see the local
shop to "un stick it".

Once that's done, then you will be able to disarm
and arm with the locks as it was intended by
design.

Sorry, but it's the logical solution for
the 95 Camry.

QUESTION: Thanks ALARMTEK,

With the car dead for so long and that situation looming of trucking the old car to a dealer or an alarm shop, I called audiovox who I understand was the manufacturer of the system.

Audiovox's website suggested that I find a model number on the unit. They told me where to look for it and gave me a clue what it looked for. They too were perplexed by the "locked in park" situation. Although some of the solutions that I found here didn't work to reset or disarm the alarm, one of the solutions did give power back to the dash. Once I had dash light the car came out of park and I was able to tow it backward 15 feet so I could get my other car out of the garage.

As much as I would like to say all of the steps that I went through a little piece of information was provided at the end of my conversation with tech support: "If you unplug all plug-ins to the alarm unit ( there were two ) the car will start.

If this was true then why go through all of the other suggestions especially since it means having the car towed and putting it into the hands of someone who might start repairing all of the other problems that may or may not reset the unit? Does this make sense to anyone except me?
As it turns out; it worked. I did in the case of my car ( BTW it was dealer installed )have to pull the lower section of the under dash to clearly see the neatly placed alarm box and the wires running to the valet switch.

Since I followed all instructions to a T without disarming the unit it kind makes sense that the unit itself has gone bad.

I am hoping that this information may help others who are having problems.

It probably saved me a couple hundred dollars at least.

But once again thank you so much for being part of this great website and service!

Answer
Remove and repair it. ( www.disarmalarm.com)

Since this is after market, we can fix this.

(Just simply unplugging it won't work.
simply an irresponsible response from the tech you talked to)

This need to be extracted, and the wiring
(starter wire for instance) needs
to be restored to pre install condition.

I'll give you the guide for the car
and method for 5 bucks at www.disarmalarm.com
to correct it yourself, and then no recurring
issues.
