Car Alarms: module, 12 volt, mechanic

Question
I bought a used car that has an installed system in it.  The module I assume is bad.  Mechanic removed it becasue it kept ticking, and when they pulled it out and it stopped.  Not sure if I can get it replaced or what to do with it.
