Car Alarms: 1999 Toyota Camry Aftermarket Alarm Woes, keyless entry systems, valet mode

Question
Hi,

I have what I believe is an aftermarket alarm (maybe Viper) that was installed
in my 1999 Toyota Camry (purchased used).

At various points, my battery has died or has come loose. In one instance, this
caused my alarm to go berserk every few minutes. The LED indicator on the
dash was flashing red. This was fixed by putting the car into valet mode,
which turned the indicator solid red (ON)

Here's the real question - After a hiccup with a low battery, right now my LED
indicator is OFF.  What does this mean? I have encountered flashing LED (bad
- alarm goes off) and solid ON LED (good, no alarm), but never solid OFF LED.

I am afraid of my alarm going off at an inopportune moment. Could you
please translate what my LED is trying to tell me?

Also, nobody is going to steal my 1999 camry because everybody else in my
neighborhood drives nice cars.. Is it difficult to remove the alarm
permanently?
