Car Alarms: Chapman alarm problem, vehicle security systems, toyota rav4

Question
We left our 2000 Toyota Rav4 for a month, when we were out of town. Vehicle was started weekly to keep battery charged. Friends, where the vehicle was left, weren't familiar w/the alarm and a couple of times, the alarm was activated when they manually opened the door with the key. They hit the remote to stop the alarm & didn't think much of it.
Then, the last time they went to start vehicle, the engine cranked but never turned over, like it was out of gas (which it wasn't). Vehicle was towed to mechanic. After many hours, finally had dealer mech come over w/scope which, according to mech, showed the alarm system had 'gone bad'. They removed the entire alarm system and vehicle started fine. He said the faulty alarm somehow shut down the factory computer. So my question is, do these Chapman Vehicle Security Systems simply fail? I couldn't find this company on the internet, would they have a warranty? (it was installed at dealership when vehicle was bought new in 2000). And would their failure result in shutting down the factory computer, so vehicle would not start? Thank you.

Answer
On this one, the best thing here is
to go to my installers forum at
www.installsupport.com and see if
my resident technicians there can assist
with this project.

I unfortunately don't know the
system you are working with to advise
you properly on it's functions,
features or trouble shooting
information. Better to check with a tech
that might.

Good luck there.
