Car Alarms: 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT Alarm, hyundai elantra gt, 2002 hyundai elantra gt

Question
When I bought this car used in 2004 I didn't even know that that the alarm worked-- I had never heard it at all, even though there is a notice on the driver's side window as to its existance as a Hyundai system. About 4 weeks ago the alarm began been going off at all random times of the night and day. The yellow lights also flash. We haven't noticed anything externally that could be setting it off. Is there something we can do to fix or disable it?

Answer
Dear Ms J.,
   Just so you know, dealerships
like Kia-Hyundai-Subaru-Suzuki etc...,
put in aftermarket keyless entry/car alarm
equipment installed by a local contractor
when you first buy the car/truck.

You know, when the finance office at
the dealer sells you everything they can
before coming to a price? That's probably
the case here.

It's likely that there is an impact/shock sensor
under the dash board area, close to the steering column.
It will have 2 blinking lights (red green) that would
light up when the body "feels" a vibration sharp enough.
It sounds as if this is set up to high.

There are 2 wheels inset (maybe 1) on the shock sensor.
Turn it counter clock wise to decrease the sensitivity.
Or, if it were me, I say unplug the sensor all together
as it is annoying, and just let the door triggers
(dome light off-on) set off the alarm when needed.

Either way, that should stop
the randomness or, falsing that's going
on currently.

Let me know what you discover.

Have a good evening.
