Car Alarms: 2001 Dodge Stratus Factory Alarm Problem, car alarm installer, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: Hi. I just bought a 2001 Dodge Stratus SE Coupe. Earlier today, the factory issued panic alarm started going off when I unlocked the driver's side door with the key. It happened three more times this evening, and it seems to happen when one of the doors are opened (from the inside) or when I unlock the car from the inside. Can you give me any suggestions? I'd prefer to leave the panic function installed, but if this keeps happening, I wouldn't mind disabling the system altogether. Thanks for your help!

ANSWER: Tough car to work on for aftermarket or
for OEM repair.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Many veriables on this vehicle &
I Require a bit more imput please.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on what course of action
to take.

QUESTION: It's a factory "panic" alarm, it's supposed to only go off when someone tries to unlock and open the door without the key or remote. The headlights flash and the horn beeps. I didn't notice "Security" flashing on the dash. Thanks!

Answer
Ok, this one is for a technician to tackle.
Please locate a competant, local car alarm
installer and provide him/her with these
notes:

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS lt. green/orange
In conn. C4, pin 4 @ BCM.
The BCM is attached to the fuse/relay box at
the end of the dash on the driver side.
Connector C4 is a 26 pin plug on the
bottom edge of the BCM. This is a single
wire and arms and disarms when the doors
are locked and unlocked. To do this right,
Do BOTH relay functions:

Arm is positive trigger thru a 1800 ohm resistor,
disarm is positive thru a 750 ohm resistor.
You Must use 2 POSITIVE setup relays!!

Once done, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good day.
