Car Alarms: viper alarm self triggering, alarmtek, shock sensor

Question
Hello....recently had an older magnadyne alarm removed from a 1991 camaro Z28 due to self triggering problems.  It would just randomly go off in the middle of the night.  Had a viper 350hv alarm installed in its place.  Now, the alarm is doing the same thing (i.e randomly going off).

The magnadyne siren was wired to a hood pin switch and a little black box (with an adjustable screw on top in the engine bay). When the viper siren was installed, the installer wired it the same way.   I thought maybe this might be the culprit (as these were the only pieces from the previous car alarm left in place).  So I cut the wires to both. Now, the siren only has the red and black wire running from it to the Viper control unit.

The problem persists. Actually, there is another piece of the old alarm being used still.  This is the little piezo siren mounted under the dash.

I've had no electrical problems what-so-ever with this car, excpet for these pesky car alarm problems.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Matthew

Answer
Well, the sensor under the hood would be
too sensitive in any case, but since you've
cut that one out of the mix, then inspect the
following:

1. The door trigger. This wire is connected to the
white wire at the courtesy light under the dash.
Check the connector, and make sure of course
that when the door opens and closes, the
dome light goes on and off.

2. The trunk pin switch wire,
black/orange |-|at cargo light same test.

3. locate the shock sensor under the dash
and unplug it. Never liked them anyway.

4. lastly, no problem with the mini siren,
but what we are looking for is the
reason it triggers intermittently.
It's normally the shock sensor
from my experience. leave it off.

Good luck with it, and for
support on the Viper, you will need
to go to your installer for help there.

I don't sell or instll them here.

Have a good one.
