Car Stereos: Sparatic FM, jeep grand charokee, antenna wire

Question
I drive a 1997 Jeep Grand Charokee with the stock stereo
system.  My Fm Radio will sparatically cut out and I will
be left with static on all FM Channels.  I can still
receive signal on AM.  Any ideas what the problem is?

Answer
It sounds like a short or loose connection in your antenna wire.  Your radio does not use the antenna for AM stations.  The short could be where the wire attaches to the antenna, where the wire attaches to the radio, or at the point where the wire goes through the firewall.  The simplest problem would be that the plug is loose on the back of the radio, and you can just push it back together.  If not, you may have run a new wire, and it is not too fun.  Probably cost $50 - $100 to fix at stereo shop.  Hope this helps, Scott
