Car Stereos: car stereo, 2004 chevy trailblazer, chevy trailblazer

Question
Yes i have a 2004 chevy trailblazer and i am looking to install an after market sound system in it. So the other day i was at best buy and I was talking to an employee, about what i will need. he told me that i will need to buy a 100 dollar wiring harness so my door chime still works, well my door chime has not worked since i have gotten the car and it does not have onstar. I have been told from some other people that i can use a basic wiring harness for 16 dollars and i will be fine i just wont have the door chime. The guy at best buy told me that if i just go with the basic one it will screw up everything, i could potentially have air bags deploying, locks messing up. I  continued to ask around and people say this is false. i Just wanted you're opinion will this happen or was he just trying to sell my the more expensive part?

Answer
Hi Kaleb,

All of your car's audible warnings, not just the chime (seat belt warnings, reminders about the key being in the ignition, etc.)

But that is all they control.  That said, I would still highly recommend having one.

(You can get them cheaper than the $100 Best Buy wants for them online.  The part # is GM VT-GMRC-01.)
