Car Stereos: installed radio in 1997 tahoe, chevy tahoe, internal amplifier

Question
A friend of mine installed a Pioneer deck in my 1997 Chevy Tahoe, it worked fine except when you turn it up rather loud actually, the sound cuts out to nothing. It did reset if you shut it off than back on, now it has no sound at all that comes out.  When you turn the radio on, the speakers tweek and you know its on, but no sound? Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Heather,

To be honest, it sounds like you either blew the internal amplifier in the deck, or there's a short somewhere in the system that's causing it to shut itself off as soon as it detects too little impedance in an effort to protect itself.

You'll need to have your friend disconnect the speakers, and reconnect them one-by-one to see if your sound comes back, and hopefully you can pinpoint the short.

If that doesn't work, you're looking at deck replacement.
