Car Stereos: 96 maxima, subwoofer amp, rca cables

Question
I'm having a problem with an aftermarket cd player i installed in my brothers 96 maxima. I connected the ground cables to the metal dash cavity. Everything is working fine but i seem to be getting feedback or certain pitch noise that follows the engine speed. it does it all the time until the cd player is off. He also has 2 Subwoofers. How can i fix that?

Thanks,
  Sam

Answer
Hi Sam,

It's pretty unusual to get alternator noise like yours when you just have a head unit connected directly to the speakers, with no separate amplifier.  I think the first step would be to try isolating the problem.  Where is the noise coming from--the speakers, or the subs?

If it's coming from the speakers, are you getting it from all the speakers, or just one?  Try adjusting the balance and fader, so you can listen to one speaker at a time; see if the noise is present in all the speakers.  Try unplugging the RCA cables from the subwoofer amp; does the noise continue?

Is the Maxima equipped with a Bose audio system?  If so, did you use any type of premium sound interface adapter?  A special wire harness?

If you can give me a bit more information on the vehicle and the audio system, and the exact source of the noise, I can try to give you some ideas for tracking it down and eliminating it.

Sorry about the delay in answering your question!
