Car Stereos: 2001 yukon, sony xplod, power antenna

Question
hello, i just bought my 01 yukon. the previous owners removed the factory stereo and added a crappy alpine deck. i replaced the deck with my sony xplod and was wondering if i could hook the factory sub and amp up. is there anywhere i can get an installation diagram on how and where the wires are. or is it not possible? thanks

Answer
Hi Corey,

If the Yukon is equipped with a factory amp and sub, the stock amplifier should be located behind the glove box.  If your truck is equipped with the stock "Bose" audio system, the same amplifier runs the subs and all the rest of the speakers; ie, if you're getting sound from the speakers, you should be getting sound from the sub as well.  If not, then the subwoofer itself may be defective.

If it's not a Bose system, though, then the amplifier behind the glove box might be just for the sub.  In this case, it will still get its sound directly from the head unit's speaker outputs.  You'll just have to make sure the sub is powered, by connecting the factory amp activation wire to the blue/white wire in your Sony deck's harness.  Usually, the amp activation wire is green or orange, in pin 3 of the main radio plug; if you're using an adapter harness, this pin lines up with the blue "power antenna" wire.  Sometimes, though, there's a smaller factory radio plug in addition to the main plug.  If you have a smaller plug, check it for a pink wire; if you find one, try connecting this to the blue/white remote wire in the Sony harness.

Hope this helps!
