Car Stereos: Monsoon Amplifier, pontiac bonneville gxp, 2004 pontiac bonneville

Question
I have a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville GXP with a Monsoon 8 speaker stereo. I have very little volume and it is distorted. All of the speakers have been checked so it leads me to believe that the Monsoon Amp is the issue. What are my options beings that I the speakers are not conpatable with a different amp and the model I have is hard (impossible) to find???

Answer
It may be the stereo itself.  Does a cd play the same as the radio?  Does the volume have to be cranked up to hear the distorted sound?  If the cd player sounds fine, then the problem is the radio.  If the speakers are really quiet at low volume, then it may be the factory amplifier that is at fault.  The good news is that you can use a different amp if you choose.  You may just want a professional to install it.  The downside of a new amplifier is that it will probably put out more power than your factory speakers are rated for, and if you are not careful, you will overpower them and they will blow.  I would recommend replacing the factory amp and speakers at the same time, and you will be amazed at what you have been missing out on.  Hope this helps, Scott
