Car Stereos: 2001 Buick Century 2din head unit, jensen vm9022, double din head units

Question
i have a 2001 buick century and i took apart the dash and all of the radio conponets but i can not fit the new head unit in the old radios place. i was told that the stock radio is 5.8 inches so thats my problem but there has to be a way somehow. i have a Jensen VM9022 2din and its 7inches. is there any way that i can possibly fit this? it bolts inplace but the dash is stopping me. if you could help me that would great. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Keith,

Unfortunately, the only real answer is to do some cutting: at the rear of the radio cavity, for mounting depth, and on the dash panel opening, for faceplate clearance.  Most double-DIN head units that I install into this type of vehicle use a fixed faceplate; as you're finding, there's really not a large enough dash opening to accommodate a full-sized, motorized faceplate.  The only answer is to make the dash opening bigger, which means filing out the edges of the dash bezel.

Hope this helps!
