Car Stereos: my speakers, watts rms, stock speakers

Question
My question is I have an 03 maxima and it doesn't have Bose speakers and I have a pioneer headunit. I wanted 2 Pioneer door speakers in. So my questions what is the proper amount of wattage of the speakers that could be put in place of the stock speakers and would have a better sound quality then the stock speakers???

Answer
Jeremy,  Great question!  Most stock and aftermarket headunits put out about 15 - 20 watts of power.  Most aftermarket speakers far exceed this wattage.  Most are around 80 - 100 watts rms power handling.  If you want better than stock, you can choose just about anything.  If you want better than most, there are two things to look for.  First, brand name.  Top to bottom they are MB Quart, Infinity, Then Polk Audio.  Second, you should look for efficiency, or sensitivity.  The higher the sensitivity (in decibels), the louder the speaker will sound.  Hope this helps, Scott
