Car Stereos: CD Player wont fit and rear speakers going in and out, pioneer cd player, rear speakers

Question
I have A 1999 Buick Century Custom and A Pioneer CD Player (him not really sure what type it is I bought it off A friend). The CD Player along with the harness doesn't fit correctly in the factory CD Player slot. It's too long. Should I look for another shorter deck or is there A way to make it fit without cutting sheetmetal? Also my rear speakers keep cutting in and out. It isn't the wires. I checked them and wiggled them around to make sure there was no shorts. Could it be the back speakers just needing to be replaced? Also I would like to know the best rear and door speakers that I can buy for under 80 bucks that will produce the most bass...

Answer
Hi Richard,

Unfortunately, the space available for a deck in your car is less than 6".  Because of that, you'll have to find a deck that will fit in that space -- if the deck you bought doesn't fit, you'll need to replace it.

As for speakers cutting out, if it's both of them, I'd doubt it's the speakers.  It's possible, but coincidences like that aren't common.

Are you testing this on the new deck you bought?  Perhaps it has a bad connection somewhere, or its internal amplification is shot.  Also, just fiddling with wires can often not reproduce cutting out issues.  If it's a connectivity issue and it's both of them, it'll have to be somewhere where their wires are alongside one another.  There's only one place that happens: behind the deck.  Check its connections, and make sure the harness is snug, and the wires going into their spot in the plug aren't loose.
