BMW Repair: heater resistor location, wire loom, blower motor

Question
On a 1990 320i, we need to replace the blower resistor.  We got one off another BMW, but it was a 325i.  Ours is a Japanese import and the location seems not to be the same.  We can't find my resistor.  Where is it?  How do we get it out?  Will the 325i resistor be the correct replavement?

Answer
Micheal,
I've never worked on a 320i, since we did not get them in the USA, but I have replaced the blower motor resistors on an E30.  I would not think that BMW would have changed it for the 320i.

If you open the hood, and look at the back of the firewall, just above the valve cover, you will notice black panel.  Remove the wire loom, and the few 8mm bolts and the panel will slide off.  Once the panel is removed, you can see the blower motor housing. Remove the hold-down straps and then pull off the housing cover.  Now you can see the blower motor and it's fans.  If you look on the motor, there is a card-like item, with several pieces of curled wire on it.  Pull this card strait out, and replace it with your new one.

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
